I attended a college friend's wedding last Saturday.
My other friends (in separate cars) and I were late. Actually, super late because we missed the wedding - the ceremony. When we got to the church (San Sebastian), the bride and groom left already. A few friends or relatives of the couple were left.
Very Filipino Time ah.
Reception was held at the Manila Polo Club. It was the most Chinese place I've been to. Chinky-eyed creatures were all around. Ibang klase.
From time to time, someone would come up the stage to sing Chinese songs. Super funny, d ko kaya. Of course, I had to hide my reaction to this kasi baka bugbugin ako ng mga chekwa. Not to belittle their race ano, but it really sounded hardcore Chinese, like those Chinese TV programs you see in the morning way back in the 80s.
Even the groom's mom went up the stage to sing. Again, the songs were soooo Chinese. And this mom sang it in her most soprano vocal cords. So, me I would just laugh by myself with my shoulders going up and down, pretending to be eating.
My friend's husband's name is Paul Yap. It didn't occur to me that he might be a relative of a famous eventologist. Yes, the blonde Tim Yap was there. Apparently, they are first cousins.
Anyway, all my life, I really fear the Chinese race because they are so different and for me, they have the scary ability to conquer the world, our country at the very least. But after attending the wedding, they are pretty much like us. Very close knit - and goes for "production" numbers during family celebrations. (Monster's clan is so into this. But I doubt their Chinese heritage, even if Monster looks like one).
Maybe, we got it from them.
