Last Monday-Tuesday, a group of selected people from Y & R went on an overnight leadership training at Tagaytay Highlands.
It was my first time in that place. So, there's a little bit of excitements. Jaz a little.
Anyway, we got there at about 830 am. And then, rekta na. Rekta to actual training/seminar.
Activities were, how should I say it, not as hard-hitting in the sense that it didn't really enhance or bring out the leader in me. I shouldn't expect an overnight sensation din naman.
Just to give you a picture, here are the activities:
1) Cutting Edge - Each of us were asked to stand by the edge of the swimming pool. We, then, wore a harness with a rope attached to it. My team mates will all hold the rope. The person in harness will then be lowered gradually to the pool in a slanting way with his or her feet firmly planted on that edge - 45 degrees actually. We should trust our team mates to hold on to the rope. If they let go of it, that person will fall straight to the water.
2) Star Something (Forgot the activity name)
The directors (or the bosses) gave blindfolded employees (who were called "machines" for this particular activity)instructions. Objective is to transfer an alumninum empty pail from one salbabida to the other, without touching it. Really hard to explain, but there were strings and garters involved. My only issue was... LAMIG NG TUBIG. Machines were not allowed to talk to each other so you would hear each breathing heavily, shivering in the cold.
3) Amazing Race
Each work units were given clues and maps to find treasures. At the end, all teams are directed to the same spot for the last treasures. In some clues, we would need to dig the soils to find the treasure. At that last spot, the clue contains blank measurements which the other teams would have. Objective was for each units to cooperate to achieve that one goal. So, in the end, it was not competitiveness, but teamwork. My issue was... PUTIK! I HATE PUTIK!
4) Strengths and Weaknesses
A week before this training, each of us answered a survey/questionnaire. We then got a booklet enumerating our personalities and traits. We discussed them, individual to individual and work unit to work unit.
Over-all, it was okay. I've learned a thing or two, especially on things I need to improve on.
Tagaytay Highlands is such a big, big place. It nice and serene. Its also cold. But nothing can beat the "sort-of-WINTER" climate in the evening when we were having dinner at the golf club. It was an open-air restaurant. Strong winds would blow itself inside. Saya kumain ah.
Going home, four of us AEs decided to stop by the Casino. Hazel and I went serious playing the roulette. We bet P100 each. After about two hours, we grew our money to P1,200. So, what did we do? Inom.
Inom at Viewside, just a small unknown restaurant. We discussed how each of us felt about the whole training and how big an impact it was to us. Similar to how I felt, it was also not as hard-hitting for them but, we cannot deny the fact that we learned something from it. We also recollected about the little funny moments in that training. It was a fun way to end the night and I was not at all happy to be back to work again. Fuck.
