Phantom of the Opera Review

Shar!

Very movie critic ako ah.

Anyhoo, dsj, drach and I watched Phantom yesterday and it was the most musical movie ata I've ever seen. Sometimes, in certain scenes, there's no need to sing the lines. Characters will just have to say, "No" or "Yes" or "Don't." But no....

They had to sing and sing for ten thousand hours! Sometimes, I really wish there's a button on our seats where you can just press "forward."

The story starts when the main characters are old already and will just do flashbacks of their lovely past. The whole movie was generally colorful, with the whole production set-up and costume attuned to the operatic theater days of the 1900s. The story basically revolves around the female lead, Christine, who considers the voice she hears hidden among the theater walls, his angel of music. The voice taught him the art. A childhood playmate, Raul, comes into the picture and both fell in love with each other, leaving the phantom feeling all alone, with anger stirring up in jealousy. It seemed that the phantom is the antagonist here, the bad guy who tries to trample the growing passionate love between the childhood sweethearts. But, in the end, because of Christine's immense love for Raul, the Phantom softened. At the very least, you will feel sorry for the Phantom as he is left alone.

Mini Driver plays an interesting role as the original diva in the opera play. She plays a very celebrity-like opera singer, who was replaced by Christine. Although her character didn't do much to thicken the plot, her acting added a bit of spice to the whole story. With her delivery of supposedly irritating voice and strong personality make for a perfect opposite for beautiful Christine.

The famous song of this musical, "All I ask of you" was rendered in a nice way, but not especially good - enough to make you feel that they like each other. The popularity of this love song can actually carry you through without even making the actual scene overly flowing with love. You may event want to sing with it.

Anyway, the real score here is the movie can actually be quite interesting but make sure you'll be ready for a hardcore singing genre. And just one note of caution, the music at the start can be very loud. As in loud.

One more note of caution, I think Glorietta is harvesting cockroaches. Worst, diba dsj?
